Moray Doors Open Day
Moray’s hidden gems to open their doors for free on 5 September 2026
Residents and visitors are being invited to discover some of Moray’s most fascinating buildings, landmarks and community spaces as Doors Open Day 2026 takes place across the region on Saturday 5 September.
Visitors will have the chance to explore a wide range of sites free of charge and learn more about Moray’s rich history, heritage and culture.
This year’s programme features a variety of attractions, including Altyre Estate Clubroom, Chapel and Gardens; Elgin Fire Station; Elgin Museum; Holy Trinity Scottish Episcopal Church and many more. Many venues are offering special activities, guided tours, exhibitions and family-friendly events as part of the day.
Visitors can enjoy unique experiences that are not normally available to the public, including hard hat tours of the works in progress at Elgin Town Hall; a look inside and a chance to hear about plans to restore Grant Lodge as part of the Cultural Quarter; access to the Laird’s Wing at Brodie Castle; tours of Dallas Dhu Distillery and Dallas Dhu House; meeting the volunteers and exploring the vision for Forres’ Falconer Museum; a chance to meet firefighters and explore emergency service equipment at Elgin Fire Station; and activities celebrating local history, technology and community heritage at Elgin Library.
Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival celebrating places and stories. The event gives people an opportunity to explore buildings of architectural, historical and cultural significance while learning more about the organisations and volunteers who help preserve them.
