£35,000 allocated for improvements to community facilities in Buckie
MORE than £35,000 has been allocated to local organisations in Buckie to improve community facilities.
Five organisations will benefit from the developer obligations cash – money secured by Moray Council in contributions from Tesco and Robertson from the building of Tesco’s Buckie store.
Moray Reach Out has been awarded £5,187 to build a disabled toilet, which will be open to the public under the Moray Council comfort scheme.
The Fisherman’s Hall Trust has been allocated £8,000 to enable a side entrance to the hall to be created.
Buckpool Harbour Community Group will use its £5,500 award to upgrade a path and install an additional seating area, and Buckie’s Roots will spend its £7,000 grant to clean the Buckie war memorial.
Buckie North Church of Scotland has been awarded £10,000, which will replace the chiming mechanism and refurbish the clock faces.
Chair of Moray Council’s Planning & Regulatory Services Committee, Cllr David Bremner, said all the successful applicants have been informed of their award.
“Thanks go to Buckie’s residents for their excellent suggestions for community regeneration and improvement initiatives. I’m thrilled that more than £35,000 will be invested in these local projects.”
Remaining developer obligations includes £25,000 for a gateway feature, for which artwork has been shortlisted, £20,000 for the provision of a community woodland, which is still under discussion, and £15,000 has been ring-fenced for the Buckie Regeneration Group, which is currently running the Bucks 4 Buckie project. A participatory budgeting event takes place on Saturday 11 May, which will see the public make decisions on the groups and projects deserving of funding.
