Acclaimed authors headline Moray’s Book Week Scotland celebrations

A critically-hailed biographer, a gripping crime author and a Saltire Prize-shortlisted novelist are to take part in Moray’s Book Week Scotland 2025 celebrations.

A series of fascinating talks will be taking place at local libraries, beginning with celebrated local writer Jennifer Morag Henderson, who will visit Forres Library at 2pm on Monday 17 November to discuss her latest work, Jofrid Gunn – a ‘poetic biography’ inspired by fragments of archival material from the Faroe Islands and Scotland. The book traces the imagined life of a 16th-century woman, touching on themes of family, folklore and clan conflict. Sign up to attend here.

Jennifer said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to take part of Moray’s Book Week Scotland celebrations. It’s always a pleasure to meet readers, and talk about the stories, people and places that inspire my writing.”

At 6.30pm on Tuesday 18 November, crime writer Harry Fisher – creator of the Detective Mel Cooper series – will visit Aberlour Library to discuss the craft of creating compelling crime fiction; while delving into his popular books which are known for their fast-paced plots and sharp writing. Sign up to attend here.

Harry said: “I’m very much looking forward to the event in Aberlour. Talking to readers is one of the most enjoyable parts of being a writer and I’m excited to share some behind-the-scenes insights into how the characters and stories come together.”

On Thursday 27 November at 6.30pm, novelist Sean Lusk will appear at Elgin Library. His debut novel The Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesley was shortlisted for the Saltire Prize and his latest book A Woman of Opinion - a fictionalised account of the trailblazing Lady Mary Wortley Montagu - has received similar critical acclaim. Sign up to attend here.

Sean said: “Being able to connect with readers and discuss the ideas behind my books is something I really value. It’s a privilege to be taking part in Moray’s Book Week Scotland programme, and I look forward to meeting everyone on Thursday 27 November.”

Cllr Kathleen Robertson, Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children's and Leisure Services Committee added: “Book Week Scotland always brings people together through a shared love of stories. It’s fantastic to see Moray’s libraries hosting such talented authors; creating spaces where readers can connect, be inspired and celebrate the joy of reading.”

All events are free to attend but booking is essential as spaces are limited. Bookings can also be made at the hosting libraries.
