Sports club accreditation scheme

Accreditation scheme up and running for Moray sports clubs

Community sports clubs working with Moray Council’s Active Schools and leisure departments are being encouraged to sign up to an accreditation scheme to help promote sporting excellence.

The Moray Club Accreditation Scheme recognises organisations that demonstrate sound governance and good practice, and which are safe and inclusive.

The scheme also gives assurance to new and existing members, parents, schools and the wider community that accredited clubs meet Sportscotland coaching and safeguarding standards.

Principal Active Schools & Community Sport Officer, Roy McPherson, said the scheme aims to raise standards within clubs and in turn increase public participation in sport.

“The scheme helps communities to identify the clubs and organisations which offer the best environment and experiences to take part in sport and physical activity across Moray,” he said.

“Many clubs will already have the majority of the requirements in place and gaining accreditation will be straightforward. We’ll support others through the checklist for meeting the criteria.  Accredited clubs will have opportunities to continue to work in partnership with Active Schools and benefit from training and coaching activities organised locally to meet their needs. It will also allow clubs to continue accessing facility bookings across the area via the leisure team.”

Clubs already working with the Active Schools team and Community Sports Hub members can begin the process of accreditation through their existing contact in the team. Clubs currently accessing facilities will be contacted to initiate the process by the leisure staff. New clubs can contact Dimitris on Dimitris.chrysanthakopoulos@moray.gov.uk for more information.
