Active Schools Primary Cross Country to take place
The Active Schools Primary Cross Country, Moray’s largest sporting festival for young people, is to take place on Saturday 21 March from 11.10am.
Organised by the Moray Council Active Schools and Community Sport team, the annual event at Gordon Castle, Fochabers brings together primary school pupils from across the region for a morning of running and friendly competition.
Last year’s event saw almost 600 children take part, with around 1,000 spectators turning out to support the young runners.
Principal Active Schools & Community Sport Officer Roy McPherson, said: “The Active Schools Primary Cross Country is the highlight of the sporting calendar for many young people. Events like this give children the chance to experience the excitement of a large-scale competition while building confidence, enjoying being active and supporting one another.”
The event also aims to encourage long-term participation in sport, with information available on how children can get involved in local athletics clubs and the Junior parkrun.
It comes as Moray Council prepares to launch a new strategy aimed at making physical activity and sport a key part of everyday life.
Active Moray involves a number of partners, including NHS Grampian, UHI Moray and sportscotland.
