AL Exhibition 2

Adult learners’ art showcase to open at Elgin Library

A new exhibition celebrating the creativity, stories and personal journeys of local adult learners is to run in the gallery at Elgin Library from 6-24 April 2026.

Free to visit and open to all during library opening hours, the display brings together work produced by more than 30 adults involved in learning programmes across Moray. The pieces reflect the wide range of interests and activities that have developed over recent months.

The concept first emerged in late 2024 during a series of art workshops, when a small group of learners who enjoyed creative hobbies expressed an interest in sharing their work more widely.

From there, the idea of a full exhibition began to grow – as did the size of the group, and the diversity of the art produced. The group have been supported throughout by Moray Council’s Adult and Family Learning team.

The showcase running this month includes drawings, photo collages, a BSL alphabet creation, an Easter tree, a feelings box, model dolls and a range of other pieces – all accompanied by a brief explanation of its personal significance.

Audrey Michie, Head of People, Change and Community Strategy at Moray Council said: “This exhibition is less about producing individual pieces and more about giving learners a space to tell their stories through creativity.

“I know the team are rightfully proud of what the learners have achieved, and are excited about sharing their work, and the genuine meaning behind it, with the wider community.”
