Anderson's Primary School celebrates 100 Years of its historic building
The building that is now Anderson's Primary School is celebrating its centenary this year.
Originally opened as Forres Academy in September 1926, the building served generations of secondary pupils before becoming Anderson's Primary School in 1971. Over the past 100 years, the school has seen many changes while remaining at the heart of the local community.
To mark this special milestone, the school will open its doors to the public on Saturday 3 October from 10am to 1pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the building, share memories and learn more about its rich history.
The school is also appealing to former pupils, staff and members of the community to contribute photographs and memorabilia for the celebrations. Anyone with historical items or photographs is encouraged to contact Andersons100years@gmail.com. If sending photographs by email, contributors are asked to include the names of as many people as possible featured in the image, along with the approximate date it was taken, to help build a detailed historical record.
Head Teacher, Sara Neil, said: “For 100 years it has been a place of learning, friendship and achievement for generations of local families. We’re looking forward to welcoming former pupils, staff and residents to share their memories and help us celebrate this important chapter in our history.”
Chair of Moray Council's Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “This centenary provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the generations of pupils, staff and families who have been part of the building's history. I would encourage anyone with photographs, stories or memorabilia to get involved and help preserve these important memories for future generations.”
