Approval being recommended for Cullen secondary rezoning

Education officials are recommending approval of plans to redraw the catchment area boundaries for Buckie High School and Keith Grammar School as they affect pupils leaving Cullen Primary School.

Education officials are recommending approval of plans to redraw the catchment area boundaries for Buckie High School and Keith Grammar School as they affect pupils leaving Cullen Primary School.

It follows a public consultation in which almost all respondents – including parents - agreed with the proposals.

They will go to the meeting of Moray Council’s children and young people’s services committee on June 7 for final approval, with a view to taking effect from the start of the new session in August.

Only a small handful of pupils will be affected by the proposals, which will see the catchment boundary line moved further to the south.

Education Scotland has agreed with the council’s senior education officers that the proposals have clear educational benefits and would help staff to develop their pastoral and curricular arrangements to benefit children’s learning between primary and secondary education.

Respondents to the consultation also said that children valued the opportunity to remain with existing friendship groups when they transferred to secondary school.
