Cllr Bloomfield with award

Award for Moray Armed Forces Champion

Moray Council’s Armed Forces Champion has been recognised with a prestigious award from veterans’ charity Erskine.

Cllr Peter Bloomfield (Elgin City South) received the Chief Executive’s Award at the Veterans Scotland Armed Forces Champion Gathering in Stirling, for his work to support the Erskine Veterans’ Activity Centre in Forres.

He said: “As a former member of the Royal Air force, supporting former servicemen and women is something that means a great deal to me. I did not know that I would be receiving this award, and I am genuinely honoured.

“Erskine does incredible work to support the Armed Forces community, and the centre in Forres has been transformative to so many lives – helping to ensure veterans have access to support, companionship and opportunities. I want to highlight and commend the work of their staff and volunteers.

“Their compassion and commitment is the driving force behind the success of the centre, and they deserve enormous credit for the impact they have on the lives of former service personnel and their families.”

Wing Commander Ian Cumming MBE, Erskine Chief Executive said: “Since Erskine Veterans charity first started to explore Moray with a view to establishing an Activity Centre, Cllr Peter Bloomfield has been a staunch advocate of the work done to care for and support Veterans.  As a token of our appreciation and thanks Cllr Bloomfield was awarded the Chief Executive’s coin.”
