Big load warning for motorists

Motorists are being given advance notice of likely delays on a 13-mile stretch of road in Moray on two separate dates later this month.

A slow-moving heavy lift transporter will make the journey from Buckie to the Blackhillock electricity substation, near Keith, on Wednesday, June 14 and again on Sunday, June 18.

On both trips it will carry a 193 tonne transformer for installation at the substation.

Both journeys will begin at 9.30am and take between one-and-a-half and two hours via the A98, the B9016 Braes of Enzie and the A96.

The average speed of the wide-load transporter, which will travel under escort, will be around 10mph and following vehicles will not be allowed to overtake.

A Moray Council spokesman said: “In view of the width and slow speed of the transporter, motorists may want to take an alternative route between the hours of 9.30am and 11.30am on the days in question.”

The transformers will arrive by cargo vessel at Buckie harbour on Sunday and will be lifted ashore by crane the following day.
