BOOKINGS for recycling centre appointments are now being taken.
Recycling centres will re-open in Moray from Monday 1 June, with strict physical distancing in place at Chanonry in Elgin, Waterford in Forres, Gollachy in Buckie, and Keith. More than 2,500 booking slots are available across the centres weekly. To do so click here: www.moray.gov.uk/wastebooking.
Online booking is strongly encouraged, however for residents without internet access, bookings will be taken via phone to the council’s contact centre.
Cars will have access to the site – no pedestrians, trailers or other larger vehicles like vans and trucks will be permitted. Residents will be able to dispose of household waste including bagged general waste, small electrical plug-in items (not bulky waste including white goods) and bagged garden waste, which they’ll be asked to empty when unloading into the garden waste skip.
Materials including soil, glass, metals, bulky waste, wood and rubble will not initially be accepted. These will be introduced at a later date. Moray Council’s kerbside bulky waste service has been reinstated, and unmanned recycling points and bottle banks are accepting glass recycling.
Strict social distancing will be enforced, which means that site attendants will not be able to help users unload vehicles or dispose of their waste. In addition, a maximum of two people exiting each vehicle will be permitted. One visit per fortnight will be allowed to make sure as many residents as possible can access booking slots.
Moray Council’s Waste Manager, Mike Neary, said similar restrictions were being introduced in other Scottish local authorities in order to reintroduce the service without overloading it.
“While we’re not in a position yet to return to ‘business as usual’, we’ve reviewed our procedures so that we can safely operate our recycling centres for residents to dispose responsibly of waste which they’ve stored.
“To enable us to run this service as safely and smoothly as possible, residents should remember to bring their booking reference number, and visit using the vehicle stated in their booking form. We won’t allow admission otherwise.”
