Buckie community groups praised in Education Scotland report

Education Scotland published a report today on community learning and development in the Buckie area and communities of Portknockie, Cullen, Findochty and Portgordon.

The report focused on a continuous engagement visit held in March 2020 when they met a range of staff, volunteers and partners linked to the areas for improvement identified in an inspection held in April 2018.

The HM Inspectors particularly recognised the good quality work done in youth work and plus the Buckie Central East Community Plan activists who are delivering tangible projects, including community lunches.

A spokesperson said, “The monitoring group of Buckie Locality Planning Group are delighted that HMI have recognised the positive partnership working between agencies and with the local community, which is helping to create 'a better Buckie'.

A key strength of the communities visited was the range of voluntary groups operating, with community asset transfers working well to deliver provision and enhance facilities for the local area. Parents at the AB56 Futures Group are achieving qualifications locally to help them secure employment. Adult Learners are developing skills and gaining awards.

Nina Crocombe, SDS and Chair of the Strategic Partnership said “I know the group is proud of the progress made and the impact it has on communities in Moray.  We are working towards our ambition of being forward-thinking and proactive to ensure local communities can access valuable opportunities in the areas.

"We are thankful to everyone who engaged in the inspection, ensuring that activity in Moray is recognised and celebrated.”
