Buckie pupils take to the floor for sponsored zumbathon with Sean Batty

MORE than 50 Primary 1-3 pupils at St Peter’s RC Primary School in Buckie took part in a sponsored zumbathon this afternoon for the STV Children’s Appeal.

They were joined by STV weatherman, Sean Batty, who’s on a nationwide fundraising trail to raise money for the charity, which supports children living in poverty in Scotland.

Although his previous fundraising efforts have seen him take part in solo challenges, Sean said the focus was different this year.

“This year it’s about going into schools and into communities, educating kids and letting them know that there is poverty in this country, perhaps even within their own class. Children in every local authority area in Scotland - including Moray - benefit from the STV Children’s Appeal, and every penny raised today will go towards helping children in poverty.”

Headteacher, Amanda Feeley, said learning how to help people was an important part of the curriculum.

“We speak a lot in school about pupil welfare, so we saw this as an opportunity to help others. The pupils are being sponsored for taking part in this zumbathon and our nursery children are making a donation for a 'come as you please' day.

"We’re encouraging our pupils to turn their values into actions - and they’re having fun at the same time.”

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
