Care Day 2021 marked in Moray by flag raising
THE CARE Day flag was raised at Moray Council HQ today and live-streamed on social media for the first time.
The flag, designed with input from Moray’s care experienced young people, was hoisted by Moray Council’s Corporate Parenting Manager, Jennifer Gordon, who retires later this year after a career of 32 years supporting children and families.
Social worker, Neil McConnachie, played the bagpipes from outside the council’s HQ on Elgin High Street, as the event was streamed on Facebook so that those who would normally be in attendance could still join in.
Jennifer said: “This is just one day, but we want to see the rights of care experienced young people championed every day. I’m proud to mark this occasion and to be flying the flag for the many care experienced young people we and our partners have supported over the years, and continue to do so. Moray is committed to Keep the Promise.”
Convener of Moray Council, Shona Morrison, said: “While normally we’d join together in person to mark Care Day – a very poignant moment for all – this year things are different. However I was thrilled to watch the flag raising live on social media; even if we’re not all together, we’re all a part of this celebration of the achievements of Moray’s care experienced young people.”
