Care Day marked in Moray by flag raising

CARE Day 2022 has been marked in Moray with the raising of a flag at Moray Council HQ, designed with input from Moray’s care experienced young people.

Three of Moray’s care experienced young people were delighted to be asked to help on the day. The flag was hoisted by Bev Mckeown alongside Health and Social Care Moray's Chief Officer, Simon Bokor-Ingram. Meanwhile Kaden Armstrong and Jack Philipson played the bagpipes, and the event was live-streamed through Facebook so those who would normally be in attendance could still join in.

The theme for Care Day 2022 is “it takes a village” which focuses on how different people in communities can be a positive influence on the lives of children and young people with care experience, and how important these relationships are in shaping care journeys.

Convener of Moray Council, Cllr Shona Morrison, said that Care Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the fantastic work done by those who help and support our young people and families.

“Care Day is the world’s largest celebration of the rights of children and young people with care experience and I was thrilled to watch the raising of the flag live through our social media channels.

“It’s important that we continue to listen to the views of care experienced young people so we know how they can be supported as they move into a more independent adult life.

“We remain committed to fully supporting young people with care experience across Moray so they can reach their full potential, and have the help and guidance they need to succeed.”
