Changes to Moray Music Centre transport arrangements approved
Moray Council has approved changes to transport arrangements for the Moray Music Centre following a meeting of the Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee today (Tuesday 23 June).
From the start of the 2026/27 academic year in August 2026, council-funded bus transport to and from the Moray Music Centre will no longer be provided. The change will help ensure the long-term sustainability of the programme while keeping participation costs at £6.80 per week for the 2026/27 academic year.
The programme itself will continue in its current format, with 22 two-hour Saturday rehearsals and concert performances throughout the year.
The decision follows an extensive public consultation carried out earlier this year, which attracted 108 responses from current users and potential participants. More than three quarters of respondents (78.3%) supported removing the transport provision, making it the most popular option presented.
As part of the changes, families will be supported to identify alternative travel arrangements, including car sharing and public transport options. Information on funding support available to low-income families will also be provided.
Chair of Moray Council's Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “We recognise that this change will mean some families need to make alternative travel arrangements but crucially it allows the programme to keep running in its current form with no increase to charges.
“The consultation showed clear support for this option and we appreciate that retaining a sustainable offering is important to participants. I would like to thank all of those who took time to share their views and look forward to seeing the talented young musicians of Moray continue to benefit from the Centre.”
The impact of the new arrangements will be monitored throughout the 2026/27 academic year, with a further report to be brought back to committee in 2027.
