Changes to polling places across Moray proposed

CHANGES to a number of polling places across Moray have been proposed following a review by Moray Council.

The statutory review of polling districts and polling places sees the addition of a polling place at Moray Sports Centre in Ward 7 (Elgin City South) and changes to the polling districts across New Elgin, to move voters away from Greenwards School and New Elgin & Ashgrove Hall, to the new venue.

Elsewhere, in Forres there’s a change to the polling district boundaries to alleviate pressure on Forres Town Hall, which may mean the polling place local voters attend will change. In addition, the polling place at Victoria Hotel will be replaced with Pilmuir Primary’s school hall - with the school remaining open on polling day.

Alves Primary’s school hall will no longer be a polling place; voters will instead be accommodated at Alves Hall.

In Lossiemouth, the polling place within the community centre will be replaced with a polling place in the community area of the new Lossiemouth High School, and there are some changes to the polling district which will see some voters move to Lossiemouth Town Hall to create more capacity for additional voters in the future, within the relocated polling place at the new High School..

These changes are proposed to allow voters reasonable and accessible facilities to vote in elections. These proposals, along with other minor amendments to polling districts, are now out for public consultation and more information, including how you can make a comment, is available on Moray Council’s website until 19 November.
