Cllr Amber Dunbar appointed as new Depute Leader of Moray Council
Moray Council has announced that Councillor Amber Dunbar (Elgin City North) has been appointed as the new Depute Leader following Councillor Donald Gatt’s decision to step down from the role to focus on his ward duties.
Cllr Dunbar will now deputise for the Council Leader when necessary and joins the leadership team of Moray Council and continues in her role as Chair of the Housing and Community Safety Committee.
Cllr Amber Dunbar, who represents Elgin City North, said: “I’m honoured to take on the role of Depute Leader and look forward to working closely with colleagues to deliver for Moray. This is a challenging time for local government, but I’m committed to ensuring we make decisions that support our communities and help Moray thrive.”
Amber is passionate about giving young people a voice in local politics and said: “It’s a great opportunity to show young people that local government can truly represent them too.”
Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, welcomed the appointment: “I’d like to thank Cllr Gatt for his hard work and dedication as Depute Leader. Amber brings energy and a fresh perspective to the role, and I’m confident she will make a positive contribution as we navigate the months ahead together.”
Amber Dunbar was first elected to Moray Council in May 2022 representing Elgin City North. Since joining the council, Amber has chaired the Housing and Community Safety Committee and served on key committees including Audit and Scrutiny; Corporate; and Economic Development and Infrastructure Services. Cllr Dunbar represents Moray Council on HITRANS and will continue with her role as Depute Chair of the Community Planning Board and Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee.
