Collection of recycling bins to be suspended from Monday 30 March

MORAY Council is suspending the collection of recycling bins until further notice.

From Monday (30 March) only green and brown bins will be collected. Collection dates for these bins will stay the same.

Like many other local authorities in Scotland, Moray Council has introduced this in response to a reduction in workforce as staff follow government guidance to self-isolate, and to reduce the number of crew members in each vehicle to comply with social distancing instructions.

Suspending recycling collections will have the least impact on householders and council waste operations, and allow Moray Council to focus on delivering critical public services during the emergency Covid-19 response.

Moray Council’s Waste Manager, Mike Neary, is urging residents to be mindful of the amount of waste being produced by their households.

“We know that reducing recycling collections will be disruptive to households and we apologise for this. We have a duty of care, to colleagues and residents, to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and we must make sure we can continue to provide services in the safest way possible.

“Please do not place recyclables into your green bin as these will end up in landfill. If you can, bag or box any extra recycling materials you have and store these until recycling collections resume. We’ll restore a full service as soon as we can, and will collect excess.”
