Community councils review

A review is being carried out of the framework for community councils in Moray, their boundaries and their operation.

Following agreement earlier this month by Moray Council, the scheme of establishment, which sets out the rules by which the community councils function, is to be redrafted.

Community councils – of which there are currently 20 in Moray – are the most local tier of statutory representation between communities and local authorities in Scotland.

As part of the review, Moray Council is seeking comments from individuals, groups and organisations by Monday, December 19.

Any amendments to the scheme of establishment will be the subject of further public consultation in the New Year before final proposals are put to Moray councillors in March.

The next round of community council elections is due to take place next August and September and will be held according to the revised scheme.
