Consultation launched on new school attendance policy to support Moray families
Moray Council is inviting parents, carers, pupils and school staff to share their views on a new school attendance policy designed to strengthen support for children, young people and their families.
The “Attend to Achieve” consultation will run from 29 June to 28 September, giving everyone the opportunity to help shape the final policy before it is agreed.
The draft policy is designed to help schools spot issues early and work closely with families to find solutions and remove barriers to school attendance. It also provides staff with clear guidance and resources so they can offer the right support at the right time.
Identifying many reasons why a child may struggle to attend school, including health concerns, anxiety, friendship difficulties or low confidence, the refreshed policy encourages families to speak openly about these challenges and seek help early. The aim is to make sure every child feels safe, included and ready to learn.
Alongside the consultation, the council will continue wider national work supported by the Scottish Government to promote positive school attendance.
Chair of the Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “Being in school every day helps children learn, grow and build confidence. We know families sometimes need extra help, and every situation is different. This consultation is an opportunity for parents, carers, pupils and staff to help shape the final policy, so we can make sure the support available in Moray schools reflects the needs of our communities.”
The school attendance policy consultation survey is available online here until 28 September 2026.
