Consultation launched to shape Moray’s Community Safety Strategy
People across Moray are being invited to share their views as work begins on a new Community Safety Strategy covering the next four years.
Moray’s Community Safety Partnership – which brings together a number of organisations including Moray Council, NHS Grampian, Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue - is seeking feedback from residents, communities and partners to help shape priorities for community safety up until 2030.
The consultation – hosted on the Moray Engage platform - will inform how organisations work together to help people be safe and feel safe in their day‑to‑day lives.
Although the survey is short, it covers a number of issues including gender-based violence, environmental hazards, open water safety and scams.
Paul Southworth, consultant in public health with NHS Grampian and Chair of Moray’s Community Safety Partnership said: "Community Safety can cover a wide range of issues from anti-social behaviour to safety in open water to community cohesion. These often-complex issues require Community Safety partners to work together to make a meaningful difference. People who live or work in Moray can help us understand what issues most affect them and where they would like us to prioritise our collective resources by participating in this short survey. We want them to help set the agenda as the next Community Safety Strategy is developed."
Chair of Moray Council’s Housing and Community Safety Committee Cllr Amber Dunbar, added: “When people hear the words ‘community safety’ their mind often turns to anti-social behaviour, but in reality it goes far beyond that. This consultation reflects the range of issues that affect how safe people feel in their homes, where they live and in their everyday lives.”
Chief Inspector Michael McKenzie, Local Area Commander for Moray, Police Scotland, said: “Community safety is a priority for Police Scotland and we are committed to working collaboratively with Moray Community Safety partners to respond to issues of safety and wellbeing.
“This consultation is key to listening to and understanding the priorities of the public.”
The new approach will build on the existing Community Safety Strategy while responding to emerging challenges and changing community needs.
