Cooper Park junior parkrun celebrates Elgin launch
Cooper Park junior parkrun, a free weekly fun event, got underway in Elgin on Sunday 3 September at 9.30am.
Anyone aged 4-14 can come along and run, walk, or walk-run a 2km course marshalled by volunteers every Sunday morning,
Moray Council is supporting Cooper Park junior parkrun, which is part of a global movement.
The Cooper Park junior parkrun course is two laps of the main park starting at the north of the pavilion and pond area.
Children can complete the course without an adult if they are able to, but under 11s should be taken to and from the event with an adult, and the adult should wait at the park for the duration.
Cllr Kathleen Robertson, who chairs Moray Council's Education, Children's and Leisure Services Committee, said Cooper Park junior parkrun is a relaxed and fun event, taking part is all that matters.
“This event fosters community health and wellbeing and encourages everyone in the community to come together and enjoy a fun weekly run. Our decision to support the development of Cooper Park junior parkrun was clear cut.”
Funding to set up Cooper Park junior parkrun came through the Elgin Cooper Park Community Sports Hub, a volunteer-led group supported by Moray Council, and which is funded by Sportscotland, the Scottish Government’s agency for sport.
