Dallas Primary School helps children access their right to play this Christmas
The pupils of Dallas Primary School have spent time making LEGO® hearts to help gift LEGO® sets to children who are less fortunate.
The LEGO® brand is running an initiative where children make a heart from their own LEGO®, share it on social media using #BuildToGive, and in return LEGO® will gift a set to children across the world in hospitals, children’s homes or vulnerable communities for every heart shared.
As a Rights Respecting School, the pupils in Dallas jumped on this opportunity to ensure more children accessed their right to play. The children made 50 hearts in total and are delighted they’ve helped bring joy to 50 other children around the world this Christmas.
The scheme taught the pupils that not every child is as fortunate, and some will not get toys this Christmas. It showed how their actions can directly affect another person for the better and a simple gesture can share some much-needed joy and positivity.
Dallas Primary School Head Teacher, Mairi Grant, said: “I’m delighted that the pupils got so involved and excited about making these LEGO® hearts. This initiative was an excellent way to teach the children about giving back and we wanted to spread the word so more people can get involved and help to ensure more children can have the opportunity, through LEGO®, to play this Christmas.”
Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Communities and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “I love to see pupils getting stuck in and finding unique ways to give back. Dallas Primary School has helped to give 50 children a Christmas they deserve, and they should be very proud of that.”
For every heart shared on social media or on LEGO® Life using the hashtag #BuildtoGive before 31 December 2023, the LEGO® Group will donate a LEGO® set to a child in need of play. The aim of the initiative is to give 1.5 million children across the world the chance to play this holiday season. The sets are distributed through the LEGO® Group’s network of local charity partners in 24 countries around the world.
