Design chosen for Lossiemouth Play Park renewal

Commerce Street Play Park in Lossiemouth will undergo a redesign with new play equipment following a community vote on Moray Council’s new engagement platform.

The design - by recreational equipment designer HAGS - was selected after receiving over 40% of the total votes on Moray Engage. This was the first project to be undertaken on Moray Engage with the outcome of the public vote shared shortly after.

This renewal is part of a wider programme funded by the Scottish Government’s Play Renewal Fund, with £90,000 allocated to update the park.

The budget includes £80,000 for new equipment and £10,000 for landscaping and ground works, including the removal of old equipment foundations.

Large climbing frames have already been removed and the swing set will be taken out shortly before the new equipment is installed.

Some existing features, such as the zipline, see-saw, bowl roundabout and embankment slide will remain in place with their condition maintained.

Local groups - including Lossiemouth Community Council and the Lossiemouth Community Development Trust - have been involved throughout the process.

Chair of Moray Council’s Education, Children's and Leisure Services Committee Cllr Kathleen Robertson said: “This project reflects the value of community involvement in shaping local facilities. The use of Moray Engage allowed residents to have a direct say in the future of their play park, ensuring it meets the needs of the children and families who will use it.”

Kate Armitage from the Lossiemouth Community Development Trust added: “We have really enjoyed working closely with Moray Council and Lossiemouth Community Council on this play park renewal project, ensuring the voices of local families and residents were heard every step of the way.

“This has been a fantastic community effort, and we are delighted to see it result in an exciting new play park design that truly reflects what our community wanted. It is a great example of what can be achieved when everyone works together for the benefit of Lossiemouth’s children, young people and families."
