Disability tennis sessions

Tennis sessions for children and adults with disabilities have been launched in Moray.

Tennis sessions for children and adults with disabilities have been launched in Moray.

Moray Council’s Active Schools team has joined up with Elgin Tennis Club and Tennis Scotland to run the weekly sessions at Elgin Academy.

It follows the success of a disability sports club which Active Schools co-ordinator Hein Mijzen has been running at Milne’s High School in Fochabers for the past two years.

The tennis sessions are held in the academy gym every Wednesday from 5.30pm to 7pm with Holly Wilson, from Elgin Tennis Club, as coach.

The disability sports club at Milne’s meets on a Monday, again from 5.30pm to 7pm, and is open to primary and secondary pupils from across Moray.

There are two 45-minute sessions – the first for sport-specific activities such as athletics, football, basketball, golf and orienteering, and the second dedicated to boccia, a paralympic sport similar to bowls.

Anyone interested in either of the clubs should e-mail hein.mijzen@moray.gov.uk or call 07966 120516. Additionally, places on the tennis sessions can be booked via www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/elginltc and clicking on the ‘coaching’ tab.
