Disruption to bin collections: a statement from the Leader

Leader of Moray Council, Cllr Graham Leadbitter, said:

“I apologise for the recent disruption to bin collections. Our staff are working extremely hard to fix vehicle breakdowns, catch up on the large volume of recycling following the Christmas period and fix minor inaccuracies in the collection calendars.

“While we upgrade our waste facilities, our lorries have to travel further distances to empty their loads, which is also having an impact.

“Thank you for your patience, I understand that it’s frustrating but emptying six million bins each year is a complex piece of work and the vast majority of collections are seamless. We’re hoping to have the backlog cleared by the end of the week as we’ve dedicated extra resources to this.

“If the bins on your street haven’t been emptied, please leave your bin out and it will be collected as soon as possible (this may include this weekend). Normal collection times are subject to change, so please make sure your bin(s) are out by 7.30am.”
