Doors Open Day 2025 - Brodie Castle

Doors Open Day returns to Moray

Doors Open Day is back in Moray on Saturday 13 September 2025, giving locals and visitors the chance to explore the region’s history and heritage for free.

From historic estates and castles to community halls and iconic towers, the event offers a unique opportunity to discover hidden gems across Moray.

This year, visitors can step inside Altyre Estate Clubroom and Chapel to admire its 19th-century Tuscan-style design, wander the grounds of Brodie Castle, or explore the Elgin Sheriff and Justice of the Peace Court to get a rare glimpse of Moray’s legal history.

Forres features prominently with venues such as the Forres and District Men’s Shed, a vibrant community space, and St Laurence Church, a landmark with a rich history and enduring presence in the town.

Meanwhile, Nelson’s Tower on Cluny Hill, and the ruins of Kinloss Abbey offer striking views, historic interiors, and fascinating stories to uncover.

Lossiemouth is also opening its doors with the Lossiemouth Fisheries and Community Museum offering a glimpse into the town’s seafaring past, while St Margaret’s Episcopal Church, built in 1911 and known for its striking stained glass, welcomes visitors to learn more about its congregation’s naval traditions.

Tomintoul Parish Church will also be open throughout the day. The church sits at the heart of the village and provides a window into the history of one of Moray’s most scenic communities.

Doors Open Day is not just about exploring buildings; it’s about connecting with the community and celebrating the stories that make Moray unique. Visitors can meet local volunteers, hear the histories behind each site, and enjoy a day discovering the heritage on their doorstep.

Moray Council leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “Doors Open Day is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate what we have around us. From buildings you pass every day to landmarks steeped in history, there’s something for everyone. I hope lots of people take the chance to explore somewhere different this year and celebrate Moray’s heritage.”

The full programme of venues and events for Doors Open Day 2025 can be found online, with some tours requiring advance booking. Admission to all venues is free.
