Dyke Primary pupils creating artwork for Moray Art Centre exhibition

Dyke Primary pupils go on an epic artistic adventure at Moray Art Centre

Pupils from Dyke Primary School have been busy creating amazing artwork ahead of a special exhibition opening on 21 February at Moray Art Centre.

The exhibition, called “The Odyssey: Journeys Home”, will show the wonderful imagination and creativity of Dyke pupils. The work forms part of a creative learning programme funded by the Newbold Legacy Trust, where pupils explored storytelling, tried new art materials and learnt how to turn their ideas into real artwork.

Inspired by scenes filmed at Culbin Forest last summer for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie “The Odyssey”, pupils were excited to use the story as the theme for their artwork.

Moray Art Centre Director, Duncan May, and Artist, Claire Linney, worked with the children over several weeks, helping them design and create their own masterpieces, with support from school staff. Children have made colourful vases, drawings, masks, sculptures, prints, and even performance pieces – all inspired by exciting journeys filled with heroes, monsters, and magical worlds.

Dyke Primary’s Head Teacher, Hayley Burns, said: “Our pupils have absolutely loved taking part in this project. They have worked so hard, supported each other and shown fantastic creativity throughout. A huge thank you to Moray Art Centre, our staff, and support teams for helping make this experience so memorable for our children.”

Chair of the Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “It’s wonderful to see pupils at Dyke Primary learning in such a creative and exciting way. Projects like this help children grow in confidence, share their ideas and discover new talents. I’d encourage families and the wider community to come along and celebrate their hard work.”

Moray Art Centre’s Director, Duncan May, commented: “It has been a real pleasure working with the pupils and seeing their ideas come to life. They have shown great enthusiasm and creativity, and we’re looking forward to welcoming the community to see their work.”

The exhibition opening takes place between 2pm and 4pm on Friday 21 February 2026, and everyone is welcome to come along and see the pupils’ fantastic work, which will be on display until 8 March 2026.
