New Forres Academy proposed design

Early mobilisation works to begin for new Forres Academy

Moray Council is preparing to begin early mobilisation works for the new Forres Academy, subject to final contract agreement.

These initial works are designed to safely prepare the site ahead of the main construction phase and are scheduled to take place between 01 June and 22 June 2026.

Initial works will include the installation of temporary fencing around sections of site boundary, including areas near Applegrove Primary School and the existing playing fields. Temporary site access arrangements and the creation of a temporary contractor compound are also planned as part of the early mobilisation programme.

The phased approach has been carefully planned to minimise disruption to pupils, staff, nearby residents and road users, while maintaining safe separation between Applegrove Primary School and construction activity. Health and safety briefings are also being arranged with Applegrove Primary School and Forres Academy ahead of works beginning.

Subject to final contract agreement, a public drop-in session is planned for Tuesday 26 May, from 3pm to 8pm at Forres Town Hall, giving residents the opportunity to learn more about the planned activity.

Moray Council Leader, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “Reaching this stage is an important milestone for the new Forres Academy. These early works will help prepare the site safely and efficiently ahead of the main construction programme, while ensuring the school can continue to operate as normal as possible throughout the process.

“We understand local residents and families may notice increased activity around the site during these works, and we appreciate the community’s patience and support as the project progresses.”

Richard Park, Chief Executive of hub North Scotland, who are Moray Council’s delivery partner for the project, said: "This is a landmark moment for the new Forres Academy project and the most important thing for us is to ensure the local community are kept fully engaged and informed as the works progress."

Measures will be in place throughout the mobilisation period to manage traffic, maintain pedestrian access and ensure construction areas remain safe and secure.

Full information, including a drawing showing the planned mobilisation works, is available on Moray Engage, with a printed copy also available to view at Forres Community Centre from Friday 22 May.

The new school is planned to be operational in Autumn 2028, with the existing school then being demolished as part of the wider redevelopment of the site. Once complete, the new Forres Academy will offer a high-quality learning environment that will help improve educational outcomes for young people in the town for generations to come.

Further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
