Elgin’s final pop-up shop business announced
Moray Council has announced the final business to take part in Elgin’s pop-up shop scheme, between 16 January and 13 February 2023, which brings a variety of workshops for adults and families.
As part of the Moray Economic Recovery Plan, Moray Council repurposed the Business Gateway premises at 17 High Street in Elgin for use as part of the pop-up shop scheme until February 2023.
The shop has been occupied by traders since October 2022 and the final tenant, Christina MacFarquhar, is using the shop as a life coaching, parenting, hypnobirthing teaching, and support services space.
The pop-up shop scheme has offered businesses the opportunity to trial their merchandise, get a new business off the ground, or target a different audience to see if it’s viable for them to have a full-time presence within the town.
Business Gateway support is still available online or face-to-face as required and enquiries can be sent to business.gateway@moray.gov.uk.
The Wee School of Storytelling, run by Peter and Leah Findlay, is just one of the offerings Christina is bringing in January, as they host a series of free storytelling workshops, bringing the joy and art of storytelling to local families. These will be on Monday mornings from 10.30 am to 11.30 am, starting 16 January for families who sign up.
Business owner, Christina MacFarquhar, is a life coach and birth preparation teacher. She spoke ahead of her tenancy of the shop: “I'm really excited about using this opportunity to provide guidance, connection and fun to local people. There will be lots of free events including storytelling workshops and taster sessions on positive birth preparation and hypnobirthing.
“There will also be coaching discovery sessions and workshops for creative, ambitious and entrepreneurial women with difficulties planning and organising – some of whom might be wondering if they have attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
“It's the time of year when many people are trying to make plans and New Year’s resolutions, and to have a fresh start. But those who struggle to make realistic plans, or to follow through on their ideas, can end up feeling confused, disappointed or hopeless.
“The festive period can also really raise the stress levels for adults who get overwhelmed with juggling tasks, gatherings, and spending priorities, despite having great hopes and ideas for how they’d like things to be.”
“I’m giving people the opportunity to start 2023 on a positive note, by coming to a friendly, inspiring, supportive space to connect with others, learn wonderful new skills, and explore their potential and the challenges that are holding them back. I look forward to welcoming lots of Moray residents to the shop over the month.”
