End of term like no other
As the summer holidays begin Moray Council has thanked all education staff and pupils for their “hard work and determination” after a challenging and unsettled term.
The local authority is also asking Moray residents to keep an eye on vulnerable families who may still be finding things more difficult just now and over the summer break.
Chair of the Children and Young People’s Services Committee, Cllr Sonya Warren, said: “It may not be the end of term we’d hoped for but the hard work and determination put in by everyone in education in Moray makes it a more welcome end than usual to the academic year.
“From teachers to pupils, PSAs to cleaners, hub volunteers to catering staff, all our bus drivers and janitors, parents and carers to admin and support staff - each and every one of the team in Moray has gone above and beyond the call of duty during this final stretch into the summer holidays. We can’t thank you all enough for your dedication and resilience shown over recent months.
“Never before have we seen, and hopefully never again will we see, the upheaval of education in Moray on the scale that we have during the covid-19 pandemic. While we’re not through the other side of it yet, it’s inspiring to see how staff and pupils have given their all to making sure the continuation of education for our young people has been to the fore in recent weeks.
“We should never underestimate the impact the covid-19 disruption has had on our young people and I’d ask everyone to keep an eye on vulnerable families during the summer break, as this may be a particularly difficult time for them this year.
“We wish our school leavers the very best and look forward to welcoming our returners back after the holidays and, of course, our new pupils. In the meantime, enjoy the well-earned rest and stay safe.”
