Face covering guidance for secondary schools changes

Secondary school pupils in Moray will have to wear face coverings, unless exempt, between classes, in communal areas (including toilets) and on school transport from Monday 31 August.

The change to Moray schools guidance follows the national introduction of this requirement by the Scottish Government. Following consultation with teaching unions and local authorities the Education Secretary announced the change on 25 August.

Moray Council’s Head of Education, Vivienne Cross, said: “As set out at the start of term, our guidance for schools is subject to any change in national guidance and the requirement for face coverings in secondary schools is now included as part of the recognised safety measures.

“The safety of our pupils and staff is paramount so we’ll support our pupils and staff adapt to this change in policy, including those pupils who are exempt from wearing a face covering. We must ensure everyone is aware of the reasons why someone might not be wearing a face covering while supporting those who can and will be required to do so.”
