Findochty Primary School inspection report released
Education Scotland inspectors have praised Findochty Primary School for creating a positive, welcoming atmosphere where pupils feel safe, supported, and actively engaged in learning.
The inspection report highlights the dedication and teamwork of the staff, who work closely with pupils to support their emotional well-being and create a strong sense of belonging, which leads to effective outcomes in learning and behaviour.
Inspectors noted the school’s impressive efforts to encourage a love of reading. Staff have introduced a variety of activities to boost pupils’ enthusiasm, resulting in improved reading skills and enjoyment across the school.
During the inspection, four quality indicators were assessed: Leadership of change; Learning teaching and assessment; Raising attainment and achievement; and Ensuring well-being, Equality and inclusion. Of these, three indicators were rated as ‘satisfactory’ and one was rated as ‘good’.
Alongside these positive findings, Education Scotland has outlined a few key areas for continued improvement. The report recommends that, with support from the local authority, the school should refine its methods of gathering detailed information on student progress to guide improvement efforts.
Additionally, inspectors advised the school to ensure that lessons are consistently planned to offer high-quality learning experiences tailored to support all pupils’ needs.
Further development of the school’s tracking system was also encouraged to effectively monitor progress across the full spectrum of the curriculum.
Findochty Primary’s Head Teacher, Dawn Thomson, said: “We’re delighted by the positive feedback from Education Scotland. This recognition reflects the hard work of our amazing staff and pupils. We’re already building on our strengths and are committed to making even more improvements for our pupils.”
Moray Council’s Chief Education Officer, Vivienne Cross, added: “Findochty Primary has a warm, supportive atmosphere, and the dedication of its staff shines through. We’re pleased strengths have been identified and we’ll continue to support the school as they address the areas for improvement in order to enhance children’s learning experiences and achievements.”
