Findochty Primary to represent Grampian at Scottish Youth Poetry Slam 2025
Findochty Primary School is thrilled to be representing the Grampian region at the Scottish Youth Poetry Slam 2025, a fun and lively competition celebrating Scotland’s talented young poets and spoken word artists.
The event encourages children to explore language through poetry, helping them gain confidence, improve communication skills, and express their ideas creatively.
Throughout September, Findochty pupils are enjoying workshops led by professional writers and performers, including Glasgow-based poet, comedian, and writer Viv Gee. These workshops are helping the children get ready to perform their original poems at the big event on Wednesday 1 October at Perth Theatre.
The competition brings together schools from all over Scotland, such as St Joseph’s Primary in Helensburgh, St Ninian’s Episcopal Primary in Perth, Cornton Primary in Stirling, Hillhead Primary in Glasgow, and of course, Findochty Primary.
Findochty Primary’s Head Teacher, Dawn Thomson, commented: “Our pupils have loved creating their own poems in class and working both on their own and together. It’s been amazing to see how much their confidence, communication, and performance skills have grown. They’re really excited to share their work at the Slam.”
Moray Council’s chair of the Education, Children’s and Leisure Services committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “We congratulate the pupils and staff at Findochty Primary on this fantastic achievement. Taking part in the Scottish Youth Poetry Slam is a wonderful opportunity to develop new skills and a love for language. We wish them all the best of luck and look forward to seeing them shine on stage.”
