First council meeting adjourned
The first meeting of the new Moray Council was adjourned today without any business being transacted.
Councillors agreed unanimously to adjourn the meeting until next week to allow further discussions to take place on forming an administration.
The motion to adjourn until 9.30am next Wednesday was made by SNP group co-leader Councillor Graham Leadbitter and seconded by Conservative group leader Councillor James Allan.
The meeting in the council chambers lasted only two minutes.
Items on the agenda had included the appointment of a convener and council leader, the appointment of elected members to the various council committees and a timetable and calendar of meetings for the rest of the year.
Elections to fill the 26 seats on the council were held earlier this month and resulted in the election of nine SNP councillors, eight Conservatives, eight Independents and one Labour councillor.
One of the Independents has since resigned, triggering a by-election in July.
