FitLife?: Joint statement from Moray Council and Moray Leisure Centre
Leader of Moray Council, Cllr Graham Leadbitter, said: “Our campaign to secure the future of Moray Council’s leisure facilities is going strong and has seen 200 additional memberships registered. However, to address some of the questions on social media: we work in partnership, not in competition, with Moray Leisure Centre to deliver much-valued leisure services locally. We continue to support Moray Leisure Centre and we are pleased to see their membership base grow, as is ours, as part of the FitLife? family.
“We wouldn’t encourage anyone to cancel their membership at any facility – instead we continue to push for additional FitLife? memberships at all facilities. Securing another 100 memberships at council-run facilities by 20 February will mean we can secure the future of the swimming pools which are under threat and ensure that local communities in Moray can continue to access facilities on their doorstep and enjoy all the benefits of a value-for-money FitLife? membership.”
Chair of Moray Leisure Centre Board, Andrew Wood, said: “We at Moray Leisure Centre fully support Moray Council’s efforts to increase the uptake of leisure memberships and safeguard local leisure services in the area. All FitLife? centres have the same aim – to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Moray. All centres, including Moray Leisure Centre, need to increase their customer base by offering new concepts in sport and leisure, while improving the services on offer within those facilities that members enjoy. Moray Leisure Centre tries to achieve this aim as a charity dedicated to the people of Moray, where my fellow Directors and I are all volunteers, not as a private company.
