Forres Tigers basketball team seek additional sponsors-2

Forres Tigers on the hunt for sponsorship

Forres Academy’s basketball team, Forres Tigers, are seeking a sponsor for their home kit to help players hit the court with greater team pride.

S6 pupil and Active Schools Young Leader, Cole Ryan, has been the driving force behind the school team since its formation in February 2022, supported by Forres Active Schools who help with arrangements for training sessions and coaching qualifications.

Cole, who recently completed a coaching award with Basketball Scotland, said: “We currently have more than 30 players and would welcome along any under 18s who would like to try out. No previous experience is needed, just an enthusiasm for basketball. Typical training sessions include drills, skill development, layout practise and game play.”

Volunteer coaches Troy Custodio and Elliot Robbin work alongside Cole to coach the team at Friday training sessions which are held from 5-7pm at Forres Academy.

Forres Tigers’ latest friendly against Moray Mavericks saw the junior team win 40-21, while the seniors lost out in a closely fought game 29-39. More friendlies are planned with the eventual aim of establishing a youth basketball league.

The team has put out an appeal for a sponsor for their first home kit and to support fundraising towards a digital scoreboard and a competition standard basketball. They are grateful to community interest company, The Paddock Broom of Moy CIC, which sponsors their away kit.

The players hope to see the outdoor basketball court near Forres Academy brought back into use or the installation of a multi use games area in the town which could boost participation in a range of sports. Anyone interested in joining Forres Tigers – as a player or a sponsor – can contact Active Schools Coordinator Rosalyn Carruthers at rosalyn.carruthers@moray.gov.uk for more information.
