Fostering Fortnight

Moray Council is seeking to add to its pool of foster carers.

The recruitment campaign coincides with Foster Care Fortnight which runs until May 21 and is the UK’s biggest awareness raising event for foster caring.

The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Foster care transforms lives’ and reinforces the message that foster carers come from all walks of life.

“We assess applicants regardless of whether you own your own home, are unemployed or retired, have children or not, of whether you are in a relationship,” said fostering social worker Leanne Andrews.

“We continue to provide ongoing support and training to foster carers once they are approved.

“There are so many reasons why a child could come into foster care and they can stay for one night to several months or, in some cases, they may remain permanently in foster care throughout their childhood. Young people can also remain cared for once they are 16 and over.”
