Free period products in Moray – where should they be?

Moray Council has launched a survey to find out where locals want to see free period products made available.

From August 2022 the local authority has a requirement to ensure that everyone in Moray who menstruates has access to period products, free of charge, as and when they are required. This includes visitors to Moray for the duration of their stay.

Locals are now being asked to share their views on where these should be available and what type of products would be most useful. The survey runs until 13 July 2022 and is available for anyone to complete, from people who would use the products themselves to those picking them up for young people or other dependants.

Moray Council’s Senior Policy Officer on Poverty, Will Napier, said the dignity of individuals should underpin any decisions on where to obtain free period products.

“In an ideal world there would be no stigma associated with menstruation and the need for access to period products. However, we know there can be and that’s why we need the views of people in Moray with respect to what type of free products we should be providing and where they should be located.

“We need to identify those places that are accessible, including ease of access for those with physical disabilities and mobility issues. The survey asks about locations that people would feel comfortable going in to and options for reusable versus single use products. It takes less than five minutes to complete and will ensure we provide the most needed products in the most appropriate locations.”

The survey can be completed here: www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/FPPmoray until Wednesday 13 July.

Free period products are currently available in schools and some community venues, such as libraries and GP surgeries. The additional locations and types of product available free of charge in Moray will be published and publicised in August 2022.
