Free sanitary products to be available in all Moray schools

FREE sanitary products will be available in every school in Moray from the start of the new school year.

It’s being funded by the Scottish Government in a bid to end ‘period poverty’ in Scotland, and sanitary products will be freely available in toilets in secondary and primary schools.

Chair of Moray Council’s Children & Young People’s Services Committee, Cllr Sonya Warren, welcomed the move.

“Hopefully this will be a simple way to help make everyday life easier and education more accessible for all our young people,” she said.

“Period poverty is a terrible situation and it's sad that some of our young people are facing these challenges in our communities and society today.”

Hugh McCulloch, Head Teacher at Elgin High School, said a range of sanitary products have been placed in toilets in preparation for the new term.

“Young people in our schools shouldn’t have to worry about access to sanitary products; they should be able to focus wholly on their education and school experience, so I’m delighted that we’re able to remove this barrier for our pupils.”

Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
