Free workshops for local sports clubs on offer

FREE workshops are being held for sports clubs and associations in Moray to provide opportunities for upskilling.

Those involved in running sports clubs will have the chance to attend sessions covering data protection, Community Asset Transfer, Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG), funding and sports psychology. These are free for those affiliated to sportMoray, or £5 per person for unaffiliated organisations.

The first workshop will take place on 27 February, on the introduction of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation.

Kim Paterson, Sports Development Officer at Moray Council said: “These workshops are a great opportunity for clubs to come together in Moray to network, share best practice and learn from experts in relation to a series of themes that are critical to the success of a voluntary club.

“sportMoray is always keen to support the collective of sports clubs operating across the area in any way they can and these workshops are ideal opportunities.”

Ann Rossiter, Chair of sportMoray, is encouraging people to come along to the workshops, which will help clubs and organisations keep up-to-date with legislation.

“Coaches, club officials, athletes and volunteers need to be given the opportunity to attend workshops on their doorstep - allowing them to upskill and be more informed of areas that have been identified by governing bodies as essential to the well running of clubs, coaching sessions and meeting Government guidelines along with local initiatives that clubs may wish to engage in.

“sportMoray are endeavouring to deliver this through workshop sessions, meeting the aims and objectives of the sports council at the same time providing support across this sector.”
