Garden Waste Permit now available 2026

Garden waste permits now available in Moray

Moray residents are being encouraged to order their garden waste permits by 6 March 2026.

The permit must be displayed on brown bins containing garden waste. A separate permit is required for each additional garden waste bin. Bins containing only food waste don’t need a permit.

The 6 March deadline will guarantee delivery of the permit by 1 April, when the new stickers should be displayed. Permits will be sent out in batches from week beginning 23 March.

Permits, costing £54, can be ordered online at any time of the year, however they’re valid from 1 April 2026 until 31 March 2027 and are not transferable between properties. There are no brown bin collections over Christmas and New Year.

Householders can also take their garden waste to one of the household waste recycling centres (free of charge). Alternatively, people can compost garden waste at home

Moray Council’s Chair of the Economic Development and Infrastructure Services Committee, Cllr Marc Macrae, encourages early applications for permits: “Anyone planning to buy a garden waste permit this year should do so before 6 March so it’s ready to use from 1 April. The small increase in cost this year helps us recover more of the expense involved in running the service.

“Garden waste collection isn’t something councils are required to provide, so we have to carefully balance the rising cost of operating the service with the benefit it brings to residents. Some councils no longer offer garden waste collection at all, and others are reducing their service or increasing charges this year to manage costs. We’re pleased to be able to continue providing this valued service in Moray, and we hope residents see the benefit of having a permit for their convenience.”
