£213,000 Summer of Sport funding boost for Moray sports clubs

Hundreds of children and young people across Moray will have the chance to get active this summer thanks to a £213,000 investment from sportscotland’s Summer of Sport programme.

The funding, announced as part of a national programme linked to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, will support 32 projects across Moray designed to help young people get active, stay active and improve their wellbeing through sport and physical activity. A full list of award recipients can be found here.

Summer of Sport is a Scottish Government funded initiative delivered through sportscotland, designed to create a lasting legacy from the Glasgow games by giving more children and young people opportunities to take part in sport and physical activity in their local communities.

Alongside the Summer of Sport investment, Moray Council has also secured funding from sportscotland for a new Club Development Officer post. The role will support local sports clubs and community organisations to become stronger, more sustainable, safer and more inclusive.

It comes as Moray Council and partners roll out an innovative new strategy called Active Moray, designed to make physical activity and sport a key part of everyday life.

Chair of the Education, Children's and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: "This investment will create more opportunities for children and young people across Moray to take part in sport and physical activity, regardless of their circumstances.

"Summer of Sport is about making it easier for people to get involved, try something new and enjoy the benefits that being active can bring. It is also a fantastic opportunity to build on the excitement of the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow and create a positive legacy in communities across Moray.”
