More than £77,000 was distributed through trust funds administered by Moray Council during 2025/26, helping support educational opportunities, community causes and charitable activities across Moray.
A report to the Council’s Corporate Committee shows that £77,133 was awarded from ten trust funds during the year. The largest share of funding, £46,985, came from education-related trusts, including the Moray & Nairn Educational trust, Banffshire Educational Trust, Donald Manson Fund (currently accepting applications until 30 September 2026) and Milne's Institution Trust, helping to support educational opportunities for young people.
A further £20,770 was distributed through the Auchernack Trust, while £3,450 was awarded through The MacDonald Benevolent Fund. An additional £5,928 was awarded through other trust funds administered by the council.
The council administers 37 trust funds, many of which were established through legacies left by local people and organisations for the benefit of communities across Moray. These funds support a wide range of purposes, including education, community welfare, charitable assistance and the upkeep of public and community assets. Local members are consulted on applications made to trust funds relating to their ward.
Chair of the Corporate Committee, Cllr Marc Macrae, said: “These trust funds provide valuable support to people and communities across Moray and help ensure that generous gifts and legacies left by previous generations continue to benefit local residents today.
“It’s particularly encouraging to see significant investment in education, helping young people access opportunities and reach their potential. The funding awarded through these trusts also supports wider community wellbeing and charitable causes across Moray.
“I’d like to thank everyone involved in administering the funds and ensuring the money is distributed in line with the wishes of those who established them.”
The report also notes that almost £289,000 is expected to be available for distribution from trust funds during 2026/27, including income carried forward from the previous year.
The trust funds are administered by Moray Council in accordance with the terms set out by the original benefactors, ensuring funds continue to support the causes and communities they were intended to benefit.
