A planning application to develop an area of ground in Elgin for allotments has been approved.

The site adjoining the playing fields at Pinefield was finally earmarked last year after lengthy efforts by Moray Council and the Elgin Allotment Association to identify a suitable location.

The triangular area of ground to the south-west of the existing playing fields will accommodate a total of 22 allotments, each with an area of at least 250 square metres and each with a shed and polytunnel.

Access to the site will be created from Ashgrove Road and the development will include car parking space and bicycle racks.

The intention is that the allotment association will take a lease from the council to develop and manage the site.

Moray Council area stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Forres in the west. The council and its 4,500 employees respond to the needs of 95,510 residents in this beautiful part of Scotland, which nestles between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands.

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live.
