Grants awarded to Forres projects supporting older residents

Nearly £6,500 has been allocated to three community projects in Forres, aimed at improving the lives of older people.

The funding has been awarded from the Auchernack Trust, which was established by a £750,000 legacy left by late Forres postman William Cameron.

The Trust continues to support initiatives that benefit elderly residents within the area.

Community Connectors has been awarded £3,960 to help fund regular community socials for older people, including a Christmas social event.

Forres Ukelele Group will receive £1,688.20, to help support the provision of ukelele lessons for the elderly.

Forres House Carpet Bowls has been given £819 to help finance hire of Forres Community Centre Hall.

Funding decisions are made by Forres-ward councillors and the Chair of Forres Community Council, who meet twice-a-year to make sure the grants are awarded to projects that make a meaningful difference to the elderly community.

Cllr Kathleen Robertson said: “The Auchernack Trust exists to support community-led efforts to reduce social isolation and promote inclusion for older people. These awards reflect that commitment.”

Cllr Scott Lawrence added: “It’s always encouraging to learn what is being done to support elderly residents. This funding will help keep people connected and active, which is hugely important.”

Cllr Paul McBain remarked: “These projects bring people together and promote wellbeing. I’m pleased we can continue to support them through the Trust.”

Cllr Draeyk van der Horn said: “These grants demonstrate the value of local collaboration in supporting older residents. Each project funded plays a role in building a more connected community.”

Forres Community Council chairperson Steve Ferris said: “Auchernack Trust funding continues to make a real difference in the lives of older people in Forres, and I’m delighted that we are able to support such worthwhile initiatives.”
