Grow your own in Moray!

There’s a growing interest among people of all ages in growing their own food.

The local authority have been tasked with creating a food growing strategy for Moray, part of which will be the identification of land for allotments and other forms of food growing space. These include edible hedgerows, green walls and roofs and orchards, which would ensure more opportunities are developed for those who would like to grow their own food.

Importantly, the strategy also needs to help overcome the most common barriers encountered in bringing forward food growing spaces.

Moray Council knows that food growing can assist with the delivery of wider aspirations for health and well-being, social interaction, environmental improvement, education, economic development and promoting biodiversity.

To inform how this project develops, a survey has been created with questions around barriers to food growing and what support is needed. It can be found at this link:survey and takes just a few minutes to fill it out. The deadline for completing the survey and submitting ideas for potential food growing spaces is 31 May 2019.

There is also an opportunity to identify potential food growing spaces in your community. Ideas for Food Growing Spaces will be considered for inclusion within the strategy.
