Heritage Day set to bring history to life
A TRIO of talks by renowned Scottish history experts is set to be the highlight of Moray Local Heritage Centre’s second annual Heritage Day.
Heritage Day, on 30 September, will focus on bringing the history of Moray and Scotland to life with events for adults and children including talks, archive displays and crafts.
Dr Fraser, principal Curator of Iron Age and Roman collections at National Museums Scotland, has been involved in many local archaeological digs and will discuss ‘Scotland’s Earliest Silver: from Roman Hoards to Pictish Treasures’.
Professor Peter Reid, author of ‘Portgordon: The Life and Times of a Village’ will be exploring the fascinating history of the coastal village and Neil Fraser, Marketing Officer at Historic Environment Scotland, will be investigating Scottish history and beyond in ‘From Moray to the Maldives: A journey through the collections of Historic Environment Scotland’.
As well as family history sessions, there will also be archive displays of items from Moray’s past, plus reminiscence items to handle and local history advice.
Kids can get involved by making their own medieval charter and enjoying an historical storytime. There will also be a heritage-themed treasure hunt in the library all day. All activities for children are free and do not require booking.
