Keith Primary School crowned winners of MFR schools’ challenge
Keith Primary School has won the 2025 MFR Cash for Kids Schools Challenge after raising an amazing £38,459 in just over two weeks. This total includes the £5,000 prize for being the top fundraising school.
The challenge involved six schools from across the area, each given two weeks to raise as much money as they could. Keith Primary raised the most and was surprised with the news during a visit from MFR on Monday, just before lunchtime.
Over the two weeks, the whole school community got involved in a wide range of fun activities. Pupils took part in sponsored runs, bike rides, and dance-a-thons. There were tuck shops, plant sales, and even a “come as you please” day. Every class contributed. School staff also organised a disco one evening, and the catering team hosted a public Strawberry Tea and a Beetle Drive in their own time.
Keith Primary School’s parent-teacher association, known as the ‘Frog Squad’, added even more energy to the campaign. They helped run a pet competition, sports day refreshments, a mini photo shoot, and a 90s-themed disco. Parents also organised their own fundraising events, including a car boot sale, Father’s Day boxes, and a frog treasure hunt. Charity buckets were placed around town in shops, pubs, and clubs.
Local businesses and the wider community gave fantastic support, with generous donations from a number of local groups.
Keith Primary’s Headteacher, Susan Buchan, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won – it’s still sinking in! The last two weeks have been full of laughter, energy, and community spirit. Our pupils were bursting with ideas, the staff went above and beyond, and our parents and local supporters were just incredible. From frog hunts to dance-a-thons, it’s been fun from start to finish. The £5,000 prize is the cherry on top and will help us do even more for our learners. This challenge brought us all closer together – and we’ve made memories that will last a long time.”
Chair of the Education, Children’s and Leisure Services Committee, Cllr Kathleen Robertson, said: “This is a brilliant achievement for Keith Primary and a real example of what can happen when a school and its community come together. The creativity, hard work and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved is truly inspiring, and I’d like to thank all those who supported the school throughout the challenge. As the winner of the 2025 MFR Cash for Kids Schools Challenge, Keith Primary has received £5,000 in prize money. This will be used to support ongoing school projects and provide extra opportunities for pupils.
